The Tajweed: The Art of Quranic Recitation course is designed to help students perfect their recitation of the Holy Quran according to the rules of Tajweed. Tajweed, which means “to make better” or “to improve,” is the science of proper Quranic recitation, ensuring that each letter is pronounced correctly with its unique characteristics and observing the rules of melody and rhythm.
This course provides a comprehensive overview of Tajweed principles, starting with the basic articulation of Arabic sounds and progressing to advanced rules of pronunciation and recitation. Students will learn to distinguish between the different types of Arabic letters (makharij), understand the rules of elongation (madd), and apply correct pronunciation techniques to ensure accurate recitation.
Throughout the course, students will study the major areas of Tajweed, including the rules of noon and meem saakinah, qalqalah, idghaam, ikhfa, and ghunnah, among others. Special attention will be given to common mistakes in recitation and how to correct them according to Tajweed principles.
In addition to theoretical instruction, students will engage in practical exercises and recitation drills to reinforce their understanding and application of Tajweed rules. They will have the opportunity to recite passages from the Quran under the guidance of experienced instructors, receiving feedback and corrections to improve their recitation skills.
The course also explores the spiritual significance of Tajweed, emphasizing the importance of beautifying one’s recitation as an act of worship and reverence for the Word of Allah. Students will develop a deeper appreciation for the Quranic text and its eloquence, striving to recite it with sincerity, humility, and devotion.
By the end of the course, students will have acquired a solid foundation in Tajweed and the ability to recite the Quran accurately and melodiously, fulfilling the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) directive to “beautify the Quran with your voices.” They will be equipped to continue their journey of Quranic recitation with confidence and proficiency, seeking to embody the timeless beauty and guidance of the Holy Quran
